Mixx.com is a Refreshing Take on Social Web

Mixx.com opened it’s doors to the world this week after several weeks of being in private beta. After a few days of browsing around and comparing “like” features to similar social news sites, I think Mixx.com definitely has the potential to go BIG. The interface is refreshing and fun incorporating stories, music and video in way that just makes sense. Mixx.com is totally usable out of the box, but if you are looking for a more personalized approach to social news you can register and customize the “Your Mixx” page however you want. You can sort content by clicking and subscribing to all the typical categories or you can search, add and subscribe to custom “Tags” as well. Mixx is just getting started but will definitely get better as users submit, categorize and tag links to content they have found all over the web. As stated in a previous writeup, I still maintain that Mixx.com is not even close to being a Digg clone, and I find it funny that every other site insists on categorizing it as such. Digg set the bar and now it’s time for some good hearted competition. Mixx.com might not be perfect, but in my opinion it’s definitely up to par with Digg.com. Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think.
