If you have been looking for an ultra precision style racing game to add to your library, Burnout Paradise is definitely not the game for you. But if you just want to have some serious fun driving fast and crashing cars, the Burnout franchise is always a safe bet. Available in stores on January 22nd, Burnout Paradise is the Massive Press pick for game of the week.

“Speed is an essential quality in driving games. Without it, you might as well be taking a Sunday drive in the family Yugo. However, with the Burnout series, developer Criterion Games has added another ingredient that has become just as important as eye-bleeding speed: crashes. The Burnout series has set new standards for snarling, metal-bending, explosive crashes over the years, and the upcoming Burnout Paradise is no exception to that rule. In fact, apart from its open-world nature and seamless online experience, Paradise will be aiming to bring crashes to the next level thanks to the new crash-anywhere, -anytime “showtime” mode.”

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six “Vegas 2″ is slated for a March 11th release this year, but we have the first breathtaking trailer right here for your viewing pleasure. To top the trailer, IGN has all the fine details on the sequel to Vegas.

“Anyone who owned an Xbox 360 in November of 2006 picked up one of two games — or, if you’re lucky enough, you bought both — Rainbox Six Vegas or Epic’s Gears of War. While Gears was certainly the more hyped of the two titles, Rainbox Six Vegas rose to the forefront of many gamers’ minds as a contender for Game of the Year. While it did concede the honors in the end, the series clearly made the jump to high-definition gaming much easier than others. Some say it was the first fully realized Xbox 360 game to come on the market. Period. We would agree.

Now Ubisoft is preparing to unleash the sequel to the masses in Spring 2008. In the first part of our interview we touched on the new character customization options and overall design of the single-player portion of Vegas 2. Now we’re back with Jean-Pascal Cambiotti to go over what we can expect to see from the multiplayer side (both cooperative and adversarial play) of Rainbow Six Vegas 2.” Continue reading at IGN.com.

Marvel is going huge as always for their next major movie release based on the classic graphic novel, “Iron Man“, due in theaters in May of 2008. If you haven’t seen the latest trailer, check it out here for a good teaser. But somehow, video game versions of blockbuster movies never seem to translate very well to consoles. However, after seeing the first trailer on Spike’s VGA’s this week, the Iron Man video game might actually stand a chance. Sure, you are always going to be guaranteed a few chinsy one liners in a game like this, but hopefully the action play sequences can sustain bad writing. If you didn’t catch the VGA’s this week, be sure and check out the first Iron Man game trailer here. For more information, Gamespot has a good preview writeup for E3 2007.

Who needs a Guitar Hero copycat when you can have the real thing for a fraction of the price… right? My first impression of Harmonix’s latest 170 dollar release called “Rock Band” was just that right up until the reviews started rolling in. Considering Harmonix was the original developer for Guitar Hero before they sold the title to MTV, I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise that they stepped it up a notch for Rock Band. After finally having a chance to demo Rock Band first hand with a few friends, you should know that this game is not intended to be another “Guitar Hero” wannabe. In fact it’s hard to even compare the two simply because they are so different. Rock Band is a fantastic party game that should only come out of the closet when you have a group of people to play it. As a single player, it just doesn’t hold up, and you will find that Guitar Hero takes the cake for solo riffs. As a multi player game however, Rock Band has more to offer by giving you the option play the drums, lead guitar or even hit the mic on lead vocals. The game play environment and characters are both more realistic than what you are used to in Guitar Hero, and tour mode will guarantee you hours of fun. All in all, Rock Band is a quality release, but with a 170 dollar price tag, I think it might have a hard time selling against Guitar Hero this holiday season. You should check out IGN’s full video review here to get a better idea of what Rock Band is all about.

There are a few new notable game releases this week including the long awaited “Super Mario Galaxy” for the Wii, and “Assassin’s Creed” for the x360 and PS3 consoles, but none of these have hit the mark in the gaming community like “Crysis”. Gamespot.com quotes this PC based game as “easily one of the greatest shooters ever made” which is a pretty bold statement. In fact, none of the big gaming review sites really had anything bad to say about it, and if one word could sum Crysis up I think “Outstanding” would be it. Problem is that this is a PC based game, and you are going to need a little more than the average machine to play it. But considering fanboys have had more than 18 months to prepare for the release of Crysis, I am sure that if you plan on buying it you already have a machine with plenty of horsepower to run it.

The latest Call of Duty release finally drops the 1940’s for a more modern approach to war games. If you are looking for a solid game this week that is guaranteed to be a winner, “Modern Warfare” is probably your best bet. This game is getting reviewed as a solid 9.0 or above across the board and users today agree without contest.

“It took awhile, but Infinity Ward finally got the message that World War II is played out. With modern times and international affairs becoming more and more, shall we say, interesting in recent years, the 1940s just don’t carry as much weight as they used to. Perhaps that’s why Call of Duty 4 has a new subtitle, Modern Warfare. By bringing things into a fictionalized story that still seems fairly plausible, the developer has made a much heavier game. But COD 4 is more than just an updated setting. It’s also an amazing multiplayer first-person shooter and a great but brief single-player campaign with the visual chops to make it a standout shooter in an era filled with seemingly dozens of standout shooters.” Click here to continue reading the Gamespot.com review of COD 4 “Modern Warfare” or check out the full length trailer here.

Guitar Hero is one of those gaming phenomenons that had rock wannabes wrapped up since day one. Call it what you will, but the concept of being on stage ripping out the best rock songs of the ages is something most of us have dreamed of at one point or another. Granted, playing your living room strapped with a plastic toy guitar is a far cry from taking the stage at a sold out concert in New York, but I can guarantee you will be hooked on Guitar Hero within the first few licks. Thanks to a crazy Sunday release, you can pick up the latest version of Guitar Hero right now instead of waiting until Tuesday… that is if you can find one in stock. Guitar Hero III (now developed by Neversoft) adds the best lineup yet of new tunes including singles from Metallica, The Rolling Stones, Slayer, Iron Maiden and Aerosmith just to name a few. Guitar Hero fans shouldn’t even bother with the reviews, but if you have any doubts about picking up the latest release you can check out IGN’s full video review here for the PS3 and XBOX 360. Also, if you want to check out the new hardware before you buy, Engadget.com has pics galore for your viewing pleasure.

Proving Ground is the ninth release under Tony hawk’s skateboarding game franchise and I have to admit that I get pulled in to the hype every time. Pro Skater hit the gaming scene in 1999 and immediately hooked skater wannabe’s around the world. Nearly a decade later, almost every aspect of the game is better, but the concept stays the same which is why we keep coming back for more. Proving Ground is supposed to be the largest and most interactive Tony Hawk game to date set on the East Coast this time around including city scenes from Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington D.C.. Of course, Proving Ground has also been beefed up with new story lines, tricks, levels and more should keep you busy for at least a few days or so.

But other than some new scenery and a few new tricks, etc. this is pretty much the same old Tony Hawk game it always has been which can get a little old depending on what you are looking for. Good thing is that you have some decent options now including Skate released under EA Games. But if you have always had fun playing classic Tony Hawk, then Proving Ground (available this week) will definitely not disappoint. Check out the Proving Ground game trailer here.

Sony has had some hit and miss products in its day, but the PSP was a huge “hit” from day one. Now a few years later, the PSP gets a little thinner, a little more colorful and just a little better all around. The PSP 2000, or PSP slim, was announced earlier this summer and sales are now better than ever. But today is special day for the PSP and Star Wars fans all around because the new special edition Darth Vader PSP just hit shelves. At $199 for the bundle, you get a slim PSP with Vader’s head plastered on the back and the new Star Wars Battlefront game to boot. So go get yours today and be just slightly more geeky than you were yesterday.

One of the most anticipated games in history hit store shelves this week and was almost instantly sold out by the thousands of fans that waited in line Tuesday morning. 24 plus hours later, Microsoft is a little richer and gamers around the world rejoice for Halo 3. Halo 2, released in 2004, was a gigantic success in every sense of the word which pretty much solidified the already popular Xbox platform. Many developers tried and failed to duplicate what Bungie created in the Halo first-person-shooter series and now the nail is in the coffin with Halo 3. I’m sure all the hard core Halo geeks out there have already played and completed the third release of Halo in a matter of 2 days… but for those of you thinking of getting into the mix there are a few video reviews you should check out while you wait for Halo 3 stock to be replenished.
