NewsPond.com is a new fully automated news portal that definitely breaks the mold. News Pond claims to be a “self-sufficient news engine” in which news items are found, sorted and displayed by global popularity. News Pond has brains and the looks to match. The News Pond interface is something that you have to see first hand to understand, and I would definitely recommend that you have a look for yourself. Head over to newspond.com now for a totally refreshing news experience.

“At the heart of Newspond lies a fully automated news engine. This system continually watches over and reads hundreds of different websites, including everything from major news portals, to the tiniest blog, or forum. As a news story surfaces across one or more of these sites, Newspond notes every detail about it - from how fast a story spreads throughout the internet, to the amount of discussion surrounding the story, to even things like the rate at which people click on or bookmark the article and the size of each of the sites reporting it. Every detail is carefully noted, sized, and gauged, reading much faster than any human editor. That way, you don’t need to visit multiple news sites to figure out what’s going on.”

There was no indication last month at MacWorld that increased capacity iPhone’s and iPod Touch’s would be available any time soon. But, after a very quiet Apple Store update today, you can now purchase the iPhone with up to 16GB of internal memory and the iPod Touch with up to 32GB. Both new iPod and iPhone models are available now and run a fairly steep $499.00. Again, it’s just kind of weird that Jobs had noting to say about these updates during his presentation last month, but I’m sure they wanted to keep the attention on the MacBook Air. I for one would love to upgrade my tapped out iPhone, but at $499 for only 8GM more, I think I will wait a while.

The 2008 Dodge Challenger is creating a huge buzz within the automotive fanboy community, and Autoblog.com is all over the upcoming production release of the SRT8. So, if you are looking for SRT8 news and official media, I have rounded up some of the latest links that you might be interested in looking at.

“We’ve received word that a small group of Car and Driver readers have been selected to help the magazine select its the cover of its April issue that features the production 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, a car that’s fast becoming the worst kept secret in Detroit. This past week, both a preproduction Challenger SRT8 and R/T were driven around Detroit without camouflage just long enough to be photographed by all the right people, and now this.” Click here to read the rest of this article.

“It’s no secret to what the 2008 Dodge Challenger will look like. We’ve seen dozens of spy photos, reader-submitted photos of a production Challenger cruising the streets, and more recently we’ve seen it in on the cover of Car and Driver’s April issue. That was enough for Autoweek to decide to post a few official shots on their web site, who didn’t want to get left behind. More official photos and information will surely come shortly. Whether or not it’s before the Challenger’s introduction at the Chicago Auto Show is the question.” Click here to read the rest of this article.

“While the rights to the first 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 brought $400K at Barrett-Jackson last weekend, we’d rather have the 43rd car built, which will go up on eBay’s virtual auction block from February 12 to February 22.” Click here to read the rest of this article.

Just a quick piece of news for James Bond fans…

“Producers have revealed some of the secrets about the latest James Bond film, due for release later this year, including the inner turmoil that drives its suave superagent hero and its title: “Quantum of Solace.”

As titles go, it’s not as mellifluous as “From Russia With Love” or “Goldfinger.” But Daniel Craig, returning as Bond after 2006’s “Casino Royale,” says he likes it.

“It has grown on me,” Craig told reporters on the film’s set at Pinewood Studios near London on Thursday. “It doesn’t trip off the tongue. But why should it?”

Producer Michael G. Wilson said the title, chosen only a few days ago, was taken from a story by Bond creator Ian Fleming that appears in the collection “For Your Eyes Only.”"

Ever since the O.C. left our lives forever, Rachel has been popping up here and there for short roles in several shows and movies including “Chuck”, but now she has graced the cover of the February issue of GQ magazine.

“Have we already forgotten fall 2003? The number one song in the country was “Hey Ya!” by Outkast. The Florida Marlins shocked the New York Yankees to win the World Series. Howard Dean was cruising toward the Democratic nomination. And on TV, a sun-kissed teen soap opera called The OC—basically, Knots Landing lathered in Proactiv—was the biggest, bloggiest thing in the pop-culture universe. That, and the five gay dudes who taught everyone how to dress.”

DivX is probably one of the more popular formats for video distribution and the PS3 is finally DivX capable thanks to the latest firmware release. And now it seems the relationship between Sony and DivX is getting stronger according to latest DivX press release. Basically, there is a new agreement between the two companies that “enables online retailers to offer Sony Pictures titles for secure download in the high-quality DivX format for playback on DivX Certified consumer electronics devices” which includes the PS3 for starters.

“This milestone agreement lays the foundation for Sony to offer high quality video content in the DivX format to its retail partners for playback on next-generation DivX Certified devices,” said Kevin Hell, CEO of DivX, Inc. “Consumers want the flexibility and choice to enjoy high-quality video content from a range of retailers across a variety of devices. We are very pleased Sony Pictures Television recognizes the value of the DivX digital media solution and look forward to working together to offer a great experience to consumers.”

“We are dedicated to finding legitimate outlets for our content and to that end are excited to be working with DivX to provide retailers with an expanded ecosystem for the digital distribution and playback of our digital media,” said Michael Arrieta, Executive Vice President, Digital Distribution & Mobile Entertainment, Sony Pictures Television.

Apple filed patents last year securing the possibility of working with Starbucks to change the way you order coffee forever. It’s no surprise that the two companies would be working together considering several features that have already been integrated into the iPhone and iPod that allow consumers to connect and purchase music currently playing while in any Starbucks location. But the ability to select, customize and buy your coffee directly from your iPod or iPhone takes the relationship to an entirely new level. Only time will tell (next week) what the actual system will look like and how it will work, but designer Phil Lu has created some very enticing concept shots that visually explain how a system like this could really work. Click here to view all the “Quickorder” concept art designed by Phil Lu.

“This concept was designed before the Apple patent is widely publicized. Similar to ordering song through the web via iTune account, Semacode works like a digital “receipt,” allowing the user to use their iTunes account for the transaction (which will bypass credit card transaction/identification, and speed up the pick-up process).”

Fans of “The Hills” are getting way more than expected this season with all that wonderful scripted drama. Seriously, who comes up with this stuff. But, none the less, something good came out of Heidi Montag’s early mid life crisis which is presented to us in the form of a February Maxim photo shoot.

“Great reality TV villains come in many shapes and sizes. There was Puck, the grimy Real World-er prone to sticking his nicotine-stained digits in other people’s peanut butter. There was Omarosa, Trump’s would-be apprentice, who pissed off everyone in the boardroom—including the combed-over mogul—with her confrontationally bitchy demeanor. And now there’s 21-year-old Heidi Montag, who looks like a St. Pauli girl but has somehow become one of the most talked about and controversial stars on television.”

Head over to Maxim.com for the entire February Maxim issue preview.

The Blu-ray/HD DVD war has almost come to an end in a matter of the last two weeks. The first hit was thrown at HD DVD when Warner suddenly decided to switch exclusively to Blu-ray late last week. This was a major blow considering 70 percent of movies being released for purchase is controlled by Warner. After this news, HD DVD canceled several seminars that they had planned at CES this week. And now to top it all off, The Financial Times is reporting that Paramount actually has a clause in their contract with HD DVD that allows them to jump ship if Warner suddenly decides to go with Blu-ray, which they did. Sorry HD-DVD but that really had to hurt.

Styled to look like a mysterious “Hooded Man” the Nitin Design Dacoit concept bike is definitely unlike any motorcycle you have ever seen before. Nitin is renowned for creating unique and highly original design concepts and the Dacoit in no exception.

“Dacoit is a one seater street bike designed for pure selfish pleasure. It is not a full-blown sports bike. The seat back rest is inspired by the shape of a shark fin. The rider’s knee hugs the orange circle area. Part of the orange strip on the inner wheel is self-illuminating, making the bike more visible at night plus providing an interesting look when in motion. The gear change controls are on the hand grip area.”

If you are interested in reading more about this unique bike, check out the official Dacoit concept page here.

Alpine’s new line of automotive headunits including the iDA-X200 and iDA-X300 expands on the idea that your iPod should really be the center for all your mobile media. If you are still living off of CD’s, don’t even think about the new iDA because there is no CD slot to be found anywhere on these units.

These new systems are fully interactive with whatever iPod you might have, extending the media you bring with you everywhere anyway. Simply connect your iPod and the iDA does the rest for you by creating an already familiar interface right in your dashboard. No word on pricing and availability at this point, but the iDA is definitely a step in the right direction for alternative automotive audio solutions.

MassivePress.com is back from vacation and the new JVC woodies are first on the list of things to write about. JVC is renowned for quality gear including their lineup of headphones, and now you can get the HP-FX500 in-ear headphones complete with Wood. Wood is good just in case you aren’t in touch with the latest grainy trend. Plus, the use of wood in audio products is known to enhance sound quality, especially in headphones which is why JVC is part of the in crowd. JVC’s pricier line of full range headphones including the HP-DX1000 have been trimmed with wood for several years. But if you don’t want to pay the $1000 price tag for the DX1000, the FX500 line of headphones might be a better bet at around 15,000 yen or about $130 US dollars if you can find a pair on ebay.

Season 4 of Lost is due to begin sometime between February and April of 2008 which is OK by me, but for those that are sticking with the series we have a teaser trailer for you which is currently only airing in Theaters and coincidently YouTube as well. Honestly, if it weren’t for this trailer popping up on the web I would have totally forgotten about Lost and how a great show went terribly wrong in season 3, and for that matter, season 2. It’s pretty obvious at this point that shows like Lost and Prison Break have a very short shelf life and would be better off as mini series. If you are worried about spoilers, have no fear because there are none in this trailer and only time will tell Lost can make up for lack of a better word “Lost” time. Check out the season 4 trailer here.

You might have never heard about the wonderfully overpriced Keyport key fob that is sure to change your jeans pocket forever, but gadget freaks can rejoice in the fact that they will be releasing a more affordable version of the miracle slide device next year. Just to fill in the blanks for those that have no idea of what the Keyport Slide is… think of it as the Segway of key chains. Something you don’t really need, but would definitely be cool to have. The Keyport Slide simplifies your mangled mess of key organization by cutting the heads off of all your keys and putting the most important part in a small fob that allows you quick and easy access to your 6 most important keys with the flip of a finger. After hearing about the Keyport nearly a year ago, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one. Finally, last month, they opened up their store for the limited edition Keyport available by invite only. Somehow, I couldn’t bring myself to spend the $295 plus shipping and handling to pick up the limited edition but they announced this week that there will be a $50 version out next year which seems very reasonable. For more info, head over to key-port.com.

Social news site Digg.com has launched a few new features tonight including a new Images Crawler and Universal Taxonomy. Founder Kevin Rose says on the official Digg blog that “Submitting images to Digg is basically the same as submitting news and videos, with a few notable differences. When you submit a link to a web page containing multiple images, Digg will crawl the page and present up to ten image thumbnails from that page for you to choose the one you want. We’ve also added this technology to news submissions.”

He goes on to say regarding Universal Taxonomy that “Now you can submit news, images, or videos to any category on Digg! Categories will be consistent across the board, which means you can view all media types in a given topic, or view one media type at a time (e.g., only images under the “sports” category). We’re also excited to support the launch with new categories. “Offbeat” will be its own category, with new topics, and we’re adding a whole new “Lifestyle” category with topics like Autos, Food & Drink, and Travel. As always, if you don’t want to see a particular topic or media type on Digg, you can click the customize button in the navigation to filter your view.”

Digg continues to be the leading social news site on the web, but as newer sites such as Mixx.com gain speed by offering alternative features, I think Digg might have some decent competition in 2008.

The Terminator is making its way back, but this time around you wont find it in a movie theater. January 13, 2008 marks the day the new “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” series hits TV via Fox. There are a few trailers and clips floating around but I’m not sure what to make of the series at this point. It’s either going to be a total bomb or a decent take on the popular Terminator franchise. Either way it just wont be the same without Schwarzenegger, zie original Terminator. It’s very rare that a movie successfully translates to a television series with staying power, but a few have beat the odds the last few years. You can check out the first trailer by clicking here as well as promotional Clip 1, Clip 2 and Clip 3 respectively.
